Ruby

My older middle child Ruby Mai

My creative, serious, independent, little thinker. Currently training as a chef at a stunning local bistro pub The Hostelrie at Goodrich. Ruby was the planned child, the longed for one after a miscarraige. Came into the world early due to me suffering with pre-eclampsia.

I think the stress of pre-eclampsia was passed on to Ruby. She is a proper stress head. A lot like me, the simplest of things will get to her, lateness, being let down, things not going right, people not doing as they said they would.

Ultimate middle child syndrome!

Ruby puts herself under immense pressure to get things right. Growing up she was quiet and reserved, always watching others from a distance. Ruby struggled to come to terms with me separating from her Dad. She never was a good sleeper, listening in to the frequent arguments was not great. But when she hit her teens, life changed dramatically. I had always thought that we were telling our kids all about mental health that it was almost convincing them they had it! Until Alfies birthday 2018. I had a call from the secondary school.

Ruby wasn't well

I left work to pick her up. She couldn't explain what or how she felt, she just burst into tears. It was odd, no explanation, no pattern, rhyme or reason. Academically Ruby was gifted. But this anxiety was crippling, panic attacks began to happen more frequently, getting her to school was a struggle

Lockdown was a blessing.....

March 2020 days after her 15th Birthday the world was turned upside down, thrown into lockdown. Schools closed. For Ruby it was perfect timing, at an age where we learn so much about ourselves, our bodies, each other. Ruby was content to miss out on it all!

We are coming out the other side of it now. Ruby is so much stronger than she realises. Not conforming to what other teenage girls do. So strong willed, considerate and thoughtful.

Wow can she cook.......... and bake!

Always creative and baking everyone's Birthday cakes, she excelled in cooking and eventually decided upon an apprenticeship in catering, hoping to travel the four corners of the earth with her culinary expertise, the world really is her oyster!

Ruby taught me to take things in my stride
